I receive more than ten unsolicited emails a day, mostly about PhD or postdoc positions. Many are generic messages, sometimes apparently AI-generated, with little connection to my research. I cannot keep up with these enquiries, so I have removed my email address from the homepage.

Please read the following before contacting me.

PhD applications

Please do not email me to ask about PhD positions or supervision.

In the Netherlands, PhD positions are generally paid university jobs. Vacancies are advertised publicly, and applications must be submitted through the university's official application portal. This also applies to PhD positions in my group. If there is a vacancy, I will announce it on this website.

I cannot consider CVs, transcripts or research proposals submitted by email, and I cannot answer enquiries about unadvertised positions. Such emails will not receive a reply.

Postdoc applications

The same applies to postdoc positions funded by my own grants: any vacancies will be advertised publicly, and applications must go through the official portal. Please do not email me asking whether I have an unadvertised postdoc position.

If you intend to apply for your own postdoctoral funding with me as your host, first read the conditions on my Prospective postdocs page. I will only consider serious proposals from researchers with a strong background in theoretical mathematics, a close fit with my work and complementary expertise. You need to identify a suitable funding scheme and develop an initial research idea yourself before contacting me.

Other enquiries

Emails about papers, scientific questions, research collaborations, seminars, teaching and other specific academic matters are welcome. BSc/MSc thesis enquiries and potential research visits are also welcome if they are relevant to my work. Please keep your message short and explain what you are contacting me about.
